Après Hatem Ben Arfa en 2015, Dante, Mario Balotelli et Younès Belhanda en 2016, une autre star du football international débarque à l'OGC Nice à l'été 2017 ! Les Aiglons ont réussi a attirer Wesley Sneijder, libre depuis son départ de Galatasaray.
Lors de la saison 2016/2017, Sneijder a marqué 7 buts et délivré 17 passes décisives en 43 matchs avec le club turc toutes compétitions confondues. Souhaitant participer au Mondial 2018, le joueur est arrivé au Gym dans l'espoir de briller, tout comme Mario Balotelli. Mais expérience tourne court. Le Néerlandais de 33 ans n'aura passé que six mois à Nice, cumulant huit rencontres de Ligue 1 et de Ligue Europa, pour 651 minutes de jeu (aucun but).
